About Us What is the Plumbing Coalition for Public Health and Safety? The Plumbing Coalition is a statewide organization of concerned Illinois residents, plumbing associations and other plumbing professionals. It was created in 2003 to inform state legislators and the public about the value of the Illinois Plumbing Code and Illinois Plumbing License Law. Why now? The Illinois House of Representatives has formed the Task Force on a Uniform Building Code to examine and make recommendations pertaining to the adoption of a uniform building code for the state of Illinois. The Coalition wants to make sure that legislators and the public are aware of the current Illinois Plumbing Code and Illinois Plumbing License Law in preparation for considering any recommendations the task force may have. What is the task force, and what is its purpose? The task force consists of members of the Illinois House and Senate and representatives of the governor, the state fire marshal, home builders, roofing contractors, architects, structural engineers, real estate agents, the building trades, code administrators and municipal governments. It will summarize its findings in a written report to the governor and General Assembly no later than Jan. 31, 2005. What is the current situation regarding building codes in Illinois? Illinois has a very strong and successful statewide plumbing code and license law. We also have a statewide accessibility code. However, although we have a statewide plumbing code, we do not have a statewide building code. Coalition for Public Health and Safety Members
